Hot shot freight and expedited freight shipping
When a line is down or a delivery window is closing, GET Express puts hot shot freight and other expedited moves on their own truck, straight to the door.
What expedited freight shipping means
Your load gets a dedicated vehicle that goes direct from pickup to delivery. Nothing else rides with it, and it makes no terminal stops on the way.
LTL works the other way: your pallets share a trailer and move through terminals on the carrier’s schedule. That is why LTL costs less, and why it is the wrong choice when the date can’t move.
Move something fast- A deadline can’t move
- Downtime costs more than freight
- You need door-to-door, direct
- Sprinter & cargo van
- Hot shot pickup and trailer
- Straight truck
- Team-driver truckload
What hot shot freight is
Hot shot freight is a time-critical load sent right away on a smaller rig, usually a heavy pickup pulling a flatbed or gooseneck trailer. It fits a load too big or too urgent for a parcel carrier that doesn’t need a full 53 foot trailer. We book the smallest vehicle that fits the load and makes the deadline.
Which truck fits the load
| Vehicle | Good for |
|---|---|
| Sprinter or cargo van | Cartons, parts or a small pallet load that has to go now |
| Hot shot pickup and trailer | Machinery, parts or materials that load from the side or the top |
| Straight truck | Several pallets, or a stop without a loading dock |
| Team-driver truckload | A full trailer on a long haul, with two drivers taking turns so the truck keeps moving |
How expedited freight is priced
You pay for the vehicle, the miles and the deadline. Nothing shares the truck, so there is no freight class to work out and no reclass to dispute. We price each expedited load by hand.
What to send us
- Pickup and delivery ZIP codes
- What it is, the piece count, the weight and the size
- When it has to be there
- Whether each end has a loading dock
Expedited freight questions
What is the difference between expedited and hot shot freight?
Expedited is the service: a dedicated vehicle going direct to meet a deadline. Hot shot usually means a pickup and trailer doing the same job, for a load that doesn’t need a full-size truck.
When is expedited freight worth the cost?
When a late delivery costs more than the freight: a production line down, a retail window closing, or a part a customer is waiting on.
Can you expedite a single pallet?
Yes. We size the vehicle to the load, so one pallet can go on a van by itself.
How do I get an expedited quote?
Email the lane, the weight, the size and the deadline to initial.quotes@get-express.com, or call 516-888-0181. We price expedited loads by hand.
Have a deadline that can’t move?
Tell us what it is, where it goes and when it has to be there. We book expedited freight shipping on the fastest option that still makes sense.
