What is proof of delivery worth in a dispute
Almost everything. A receipt signed clean says the freight arrived in good order and the right quantity. Once that signature is on the page, arguing otherwise is difficult and sometimes impossible.
A receipt with damage noted, photographs taken and the piece count corrected is the foundation of a successful claim. The note does not have to be elegant. It has to exist, and it has to be specific: which pallet, what is wrong, how many pieces short.
What to do at the dock
Count the pieces before signing. Walk the shipment. Look for crushed corners, torn wrap, water staining and a pallet that has shifted. Photograph anything questionable while the driver is still there.
Concealed damage, the kind you only find when the carton is opened, has its own short window. Report it the day you find it, keep the packaging, and do not move the freight to another site first.
